1. Purpose
Castlewood Fire and Rescue, Inc. (“CFR”) provides online training and educational programming through its Online Learning Environment located at moodle.castlewoodfirerescue.com to support firefighter and emergency medical services (EMS) training consistent with applicable:
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards;
- Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP) guidance;
- Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (VA OEMS) requirements;
- National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) educational standards;
- Virginia Association of First Responders (VAFR) requirements, formerly the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (VAVRS); and
- Applicable Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) policies.
All coursework, assessments, scenario-based evaluations, and certification preparation activities delivered through the CFR Online Learning Environment are intended to meet or support training compliance requirements established by the above-listed organizations and governing authorities.
2. Academic Integrity Requirement
Users participating in courses, quizzes, examinations, scenario-based evaluations, or certification preparation activities shall complete all assigned work independently unless otherwise expressly authorized in writing by CFR instructional staff.
All graded assessments administered through the Online Learning Environment are considered controlled training evaluations and must be completed without the use of unauthorized assistance or materials.
3. Prohibited Conduct
Users are strictly prohibited from engaging in any activity that compromises or attempts to compromise the academic integrity of CFR-hosted training programs.
a. Unauthorized Assistance
Users shall not:
- Receive or provide assistance during any graded or evaluative training activity from any individual not expressly authorized by CFR instructional staff.
- Collaborate with other users during assessments unless explicitly permitted in writing.
- Complete coursework or assessments on behalf of another individual.
b. Use of External Resources
During any testing, assessment, quiz, certification evaluation, or graded scenario activity within moodle.castlewoodfirerescue.com, users shall not access, reference, or utilize:
- Any artificial intelligence (AI) tools or platforms, including but not limited to generative AI systems such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, Claude, or similar technologies;
- Internet search engines or online research tools;
- Online repositories of test questions or answers;
- Fire or EMS certification examination-preparation websites;
- Public or private question banks;
- Study guides not expressly provided within the CFR Online Learning Environment;
- Social media platforms;
- Messaging or communication applications; or
- Printed or digital materials not embedded within the course content;
unless expressly authorized in writing for a specific assignment or course module.
c. Redistribution of Training Materials
Users shall not:
- Copy, photograph, screenshot, download, record, transcribe, or otherwise reproduce any course materials, test questions, scenario prompts, quizzes, or examination content.
- Upload or distribute CFR-provided content to third-party websites, forums, repositories, or cloud-based storage platforms.
- Share CFR testing or course content with any individual not enrolled in the applicable course.
d. Credential Sharing
Users shall not:
- Share login credentials or permit any other individual to access coursework, testing modules, or certification activities using their assigned account.
- Allow any other individual to complete coursework or assessments using their assigned credentials.
4. Monitoring and Verification
CFR reserves the right to:
- Monitor user activity within the Online Learning Environment;
- Log access times, IP addresses, browser sessions, and navigation activity;
- Review completion times and response patterns; and
- Utilize integrity-verification tools or instructor-review processes;
to ensure compliance with this policy and the validity of CFR-issued training documentation used for operational readiness, NFPA certification pathways, EMS continuing education credit, or agency records.
5. Violations, Disciplinary Action, and Referral
Any suspected or confirmed violation of this Academic Integrity and Authorized Resource Use Policy may result in one or more of the following actions:
- Immediate termination of the assessment session;
- Invalidation of examination, quiz, or course results;
- Removal from the course or training program;
- Suspension or permanent revocation of Online Learning Environment access;
- Notification to CFR command staff, training officers, or administrative personnel; or
- Documentation within CFR departmental training records.
Where applicable, violations involving coursework or certification pathways aligned with external governing or accrediting bodies may also be referred to the appropriate organization for review and potential action, including but not limited to:
- Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP);
- Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (VA OEMS);
- National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT);
- Virginia Association of First Responders (VAFR), formerly the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (VAVRS); and
- The applicable Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
Such referrals may affect a user’s eligibility for state-recognized certification, continuing education credit, CFR operational assignments, internal qualifications, or participation in future CFR-hosted fire or EMS training programs.
6. User Acknowledgement
By accessing or participating in any course, training module, assessment, or certification activity within moodle.castlewoodfirerescue.com, users acknowledge that they have read, understand, and agree to comply with this Academic Integrity and Authorized Resource Use Policy.
Failure to adhere to this policy may result in disciplinary action consistent with CFR policies and procedures governing training participation and certification eligibility.
